Default Australian Idol "Just Having A Bit Of A Spit"

Is it just me or could Australian Idol and shows like it be helping to ruin the music "industry"?

I guess that's the main word here "INDUSTRY"! In the words of the judges when interviewed on Rove Live, "Record companies find artists more attractive if they already have an established following from either TV of Film" (eg. Neighbors: Kylie Minogue, Holly Valance, Delta Goodrem, Natalie Bassingthwaighte & the Rogue Traders).

Why go looking for new talent and build on something that is raw and fresh when we can make money of someone that is already popular. What's even better for them is record companies have to put in next to no effort or money building them into something long term. Remember The Whitlems? (Australian Band) They released and album in 1998 "Eternal Nightcap". Not until they won a bucket of awards at the ARIA's did they get an offer from a major record company. Remember, almost every.... wait! EVERY song you hear on commercial radio is there to sell advertising. Sometimes I think record companies are on par with banks, there’s no way you can save up for your dream house, so you need banks to give you what you know you can earn over the next 20 years. It’s also near impossible for an independent artist to sell his work at the same level a major record company can, all I can say is “Yay For JJJ”.

At this point I'd like to use the term "musical junk food", It looks and feels like music but has no nutritional value, and constant listening can make you a fat and unhealthy musician. Find some music that is good for your soul and makes you think as a musician. You have to go searching for it (the net is a wonderful thing). When was the last time you listened to a song because you liked and not because one of your friends though it had a cool video clip!
