I think one of the hardest parts of any new band is to think of a name. Give me some suggestions of your favourite band name ideas...
I always thought "FREE BEER" would be good because even if you weren’t that well know at least people would show up to the pub that advertises "free beer".

Free Beer
Love it! Not something I'd have, but if thats your kind of thing that is gold. I'm more intigued by band names that are just one word, with a mysterious meaning... Some that my friend suggested to me were "Wyvern" which is a mythical dragon type creature, or "Talos" which is the end of something. But I don't think they'd be as promising at a pub as free beer! ![]() |

How about the Strumpets (Strum Pets) - would suit an all-girl band :-)

Being a girl...my current favourite for a femme pop-punk band is "High Gloss".
I played keys in this play, for a band named "Fake Chinese Harry"... Not my ideal band name, but we were a "fake" band...and it was just supposed to be for the play... The "Chinese Harry" was in reference to the drug filled Harry Potter rip-off novel that achieved cult status in communist China. Anyhow, we were offered gigs after the play...and Pandamonium Records selected us to record a single on their "Northern Exposure" annual CD. I thought then would've been good time to drop the "Fake"...and just be "Chinese Harry". My friends play/ed in bands called "Venus Man Trap", "Fondue", "The Eyes", "The Licks", and "Candy Fat"... (They all did or do mostly originals...and rarely a cover song...) |

Don't worry about thinking of a name - it will come to you. Even if you playing with the same people for a few weeks, you will find something that really defines your band.

Man it's tuff getting a band name; you have to consider this...
1. How long do you want to be around for? Choose a name like "bubblyheads" and your doomed from the start. 2. Are you going to be on the net with your own website? Don't go anything too common like "Star Trek Alliance", your site will never be found. Or in the same way don't make it to hard to spell e.g. "Vendousizeous" who could type that into a search engine? 3. Are you an original or covers band? If you're a covers band, then I don't think you need to give it as much thought. We just named ours "Get Smart", because in the end nobody remembers covers bands. Try thinking what you band represents and how you want your image to be presented. Choose a word that describes your band and start looking for that word in different languages. On a lighter note I always thought it would be a good idea to name a covers band “Free Beer” at least then people would show up to the gigs. TONIGHT – FREE BEER! (although you wouldn't get much work with this name)
