Default ULTRACURVE PRO DEQ2496 - Digital EQ

ULTRACURVE PRO DEQ2496
Ultra High-Precision Digital 24-Bit/96 kHz EQ/RTA Mastering Processor

This unit is far superior to the earlier model ULTRA-CURVE PRO DSP8024. It is easy to work around the controls and EQ parameters with the 3 rotating dials to select, increase or decrease parameters. I found the earlier model clumsy and slow with only buttons to use.

The sound is clear and I don't hear any extra noise added by the EQ other than the frequencies that are boosted. With all its extra features like Compressor/ Expander & Feedback Destroyer, all I really mainly use is the Real Time Analyzer to single out the frequencies that are giving me problems. I do find it hard to find the problem frequency though. When you place the marker over peaking frequency, I feel it doesn't clearly tell you what it is. I think they should have designed a way to merge both together so that you can view the frequencies and edit the 31 band EQ quickly and easily.

As for the function of saving EQ settings well I don't use different patches too much for two reasons...
  1. I usually forget to change them!
  2. Most rooms sound the same where we play!
Not to say that this isn’t a great feature, I think that this is a necessity in any unit.

When I first purchased the Ultracurve it would come up with a critical error message on the screen and crash, there by knocking out the whole front of house sound. As you can imagine this was a bad thing. The problem eventually got worse and worse until it happen twice a night. I tried a firmware update but this didn't solve the problem. I rang behringer and over the phone he diagnosed it as a power supply problem. It sounded to me as if this were a common problem with the units. After talking to others that owned the same unit they had also experienced the same problem. I have since had it fixed and have not had even a minor glitch since then.

Summary: Overall I find this unit easy to handle, compact with it's 1 rack space size, quality of sound good & price reasonable enough at around $500 - $600 Australian. I would give it 9/10
