Most lessons I get that have played before come to me because of the "Brick Wall". They feel like they're getting nowhere and repeating the same old stuff. I have come across this a couple of times myself. It can be a frustrating cycle to be in. I have usually gotten out of it by finding an interest in a different style of music. For example the first “Brick Wall” I hit was overcome by discovering finger picking it challenged me and made me feel like a beginner again. So what your describing is right on the money. Get back to the basics, they can be boring and seem like they have no use.
I’m only summarising here but it sounds like your problem could be mostly a lack of enthusiasim that keeps you learning the harder or boring stuff. Break out and try something new.
I hope this helps in some way.
