Beginners Practice Songs (Lesson #0027)

When The Saints Go Marching In (Print Page)

To play this song you have to be able to read the thin E string & B string.

This song is a bit more difficult on the timing. Before the first note played there is quarter note rest, this means that you dont play anything for one beat and the song starts on the second beat. In bar nine there is a half note rest, nothing is played for two beat and you start playing on the third beat. Bar ten has a doted half note in it, remember when you dot a note you add on half the value of that note, so the first note in bar ten is played for three beats. To help you with your timing try counting the beats in groups of four (1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4).
